70th anniversary of Pakistan celebrated at the UN, Geneva
The head of the UN Office in Geneva Director-General Michael Moller opened the concert with Ambassador Tehmina Janjua, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva and Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah, Ambassador of Pakistan to the World Trade Organization. Speaking at the event, Ambassador Tehmina Janjua, said that the 70th anniversary of independence was a moment of great pride for Pakistan. Our founding fathers had a vision of a modern, tolerant and progressive country. The people of Pakistan are committed to turn that dream into reality. Tremendous achievements have been made. A vibrant, rapidly industrializing economy, and a youthful educated population promises to position Pakistan amongst the leading economies of the world.
A large number of Ambassadors, diplomats, members of international organizations, civil society and Pakistani community participated in the event.
The Group of Qawal led by Ayaz Fariduddin, Abu Muhammad and Akbar Ali enthralled the audience with their qawalis. The concert was followed by a reception.
The event provided an opportunity to international community living in Geneva to appreciate the rich culture and music of Pakistan and celebrate with Pakistan the 70th anniversary of our independence.
