We are delivering this statement on behalf of the OIC Member States.
The OIC expresses its strong condemnation to the arbitrary killing of more than 100 Palestinians including women and children by the Israeli Occupation Forces. This disproportionate use of force by the Israel also resulted in severe injuries to thousands of Palestinian protesters.
The OIC condemns use of tear gas shells and live ammunition against innocent civilians, who were protesting decades of oppression and occupation along with the illegal inauguration of US Embassy in Jerusalem.
The OIC believes that the shifting of the US Embassy to the Occupied City of Jerusalem, is a dangerous move that not only contravenes the international law including the Fourth Geneva Convention, but also goes against all of UN Security Council, General Assembly and Human Rights Council Resolutions, which affirm the status of Al-Quds as an occupied territory under Israel, the occupying power, since 1967. The US move has encouraged the Occupying Power to advance its violations and discrimination toward Palestinian people.
The OIC considers the loss of precious Palestinian lives and injuries to thousands civilians at the hands of Israeli Occupation Forces affirms the worst fears expressed earlier by the OIC heads of State during the Extraordinary Islamic Summit Conference in December 2017 on negative consequences of this move on the human rights of the Palestinians, including their fundamental rights to life and self-determination.
The OIC Member States urge Israel, the Occupying Power, to put an immediate end to the disproportionate use of force against Palestinian demonstrators, refrain from any act that could lead to further casualties and ensure prompt and unimpeded access to medical treatment to injured Palestinian as well as to facilitate impartial international investigation into the use of force against Palestinian demonstrators in compliance with international standards and hold those responsible accountable.
The OIC Member States reiterate their continued commitment to protecting the City of Al-Quds Al-Sharif, its historic and legal status, and to take all necessary measures to put an end to the violations committed by the brutal Israeli occupation; and condemn this unjustified move of the US Authorities.
The OIC States urge the international community to unify its ranks and evolve an effective response strategy to ensure that the universally recognized ideals of liberty, freedom and justice are accorded to the people of Palestine. We call for the international community to take its legal, moral and humanitarian responsibilities to protect the Palestinian people and support the efforts to end the military occupation of Palestine and to realize its sovereignty over the borders of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital, and to end the Israeli occupation and violations of all other occupied Arab territories.
I thank you.
