I am making these comments on behalf of OIC Member States.
- OIC Member States would like to reiterate that the work of the Special Procedures of Human Rights Council should be guided by the principles of universality, objectivity, impartiality, constructive cooperation, non-selectivity and non-politicization. The issue of adequate funding remains a challenge to the Special Procedures systems. We consider the equitable distribution of financial and human resources critical in this respect. The need for full transparency in the funding of the special procedures was underscored in UNGA Resolution 65/281 that reviewed the functioning of the Human Rights Council.
- We believe that Forum on Business and Human rights is an important platform to promote dialogue and cooperation on issues linked to business and human rights, including challenges faced in particular sectors, and to identify good practices.
- We consider that the Forum on Business and Human Rights can provide us with an opportunity to discuss and address different relevant issues in order to develop an environment where both Business and Human rights can co-exist in a symbiotic relationship each one reinforcing the other. While the States are developing policies in a way that encourages investment and development, and promotes inclusive development, it is incumbent that the rights of citizens should be protected and the environment maintained favorable for the enjoyment of all human rights by everyone.
- We believe that it is crucial to address the core problems related to international financial and economic order. Sustainable development in which the rights of everyone are protected would remain an elusive dream without removing the bottlenecks to development, the negative impact of globalization on vulnerable economies, inequalities in the trading regime, uneven distribution of profits related to intellectual property rights, and official development aid and technology transfer. The realization and implementation of the Right to Development is essential can help to enable us to overcome in combating these challenges.
I thank you.
